Set up a TV or console without typing

Typing an email address, a password and a playlist address with a D-pad is the slowest part of setting up a TV, and none of it is necessary. The TV shows a code, and your phone does the typing.

1. Open the sign-in screen on the TV

Start the app on the console or TV. The sign-in screen shows a QR code, the address mytvplayer.app/pair, and an 8-character code. The code refreshes on its own while the screen stays open, so one that runs out while you fetch your phone is replaced without you asking.

2. Scan the code with your phone

Point your phone camera at the QR code and open the link it offers. Any QR reader works, and so does typing the address into a browser on any device.

Sign in to your account if you are not signed in already. Arriving by QR fills the code in for you. If you typed the address instead, enter the 8 characters shown on the TV: they never include I, L, O or U, so a character that looks like one of those is a 1 or a 0.

Choose Link device. The TV finishes signing itself in a few seconds later.

3. Add your sources from the phone or PC

With the account linked, add sources where typing is comfortable. In the web console open Import & sync and add a playlist file, a playlist address, an Xtream Codes portal or a Stalker portal. Add a playlist or portal covers the fields each kind asks for.

The TV picks them up on its next sync. Nothing about the source has to be typed on the remote.

Pair from the Windows app instead

The desktop app can do the phone’s job. Open Devices, then Link a TV or console:

• Enter code takes the 8 characters the TV is showing and links it.
• Show code works the other way round: this PC shows a code for you to enter on a phone, tablet or another TV.

Codes are one-time use and expire in minutes. Choose New code rather than waiting for a code that has already timed out.

When a code will not link

The app names which of three things happened: the code was already used, it expired, or too many attempts were made in a short time. In all three cases, ask the TV for a fresh code and start again.

A code that links and then leaves the TV unable to register means something else: the account has no device slot free, or the device was revoked recently.
