Install the app on Windows

There are two places to get the Windows app, and they carry the same build.

  • The Microsoft Store. Search for My TV Player and install it. Updates arrive the way every other Store app’s do.
  • Our own download. The download page at mytvplayer.app/marketing/download publishes the app as an installer served from our own domain. It exists so that a Store listing going away can never stop you installing or updating. Windows installs it with a couple of clicks and asks nothing along the way.

If you are offered a stable and a preview build, most people want stable; which version to install explains the difference in a minute.

The app carries the whole of first-time setup: create an account or sign in, name your profile, add a source, and answer two optional questions. It is the shortest route when you have a keyboard, and the first time you open the app covers every screen.

You do not have to do it here. An account created on the web, with sources already imported there, is picked up the moment you sign in, and setup opens on the first step still outstanding. Ways to set up compares the routes, including signing in with Google or Microsoft and setting a console up from this PC.

The app works without an account: add a source on this PC and start watching. An account adds sync, profiles and the web console, and everything you set up beforehand is kept when you sign in later.

The app updates itself. A Store install is updated by the Store; an install from our download is checked against our own feed each time it launches and updated in the background. Either way there is no update button inside the app and you never need to return to the download page for a new version.

When a version is too old to keep working the app says so on launch, under Update required, with a button that takes you to the update. If support asks which version you are running, Settings, About shows it.
