Get started on Xbox

By the end of this page the app is installed on the console, signed in to your account, and a channel is playing. Nothing is typed on the console at any point.

What you need

• An Xbox Series S or Series X with an internet connection
• A My TV Player account with at least one source on it. If you have neither yet, the fastest way is the web console at mytvplayer.app: create the account, then open Import & sync and add your playlist or portal.
• A phone, or any other device with a keyboard, for the sign-in step

1. Install

Open the Microsoft Store on the console, search for My TV Player under apps, and install it. The console app is in beta, so expect it to change faster than the Windows app does. Install the app on Xbox covers updates and removal too.

2. Accept the disclaimer

The app opens on Bring your own playlist: it is a player and nothing else, your credentials stay yours, and you are responsible for what you add. Move to I’ve read and understood and press A, then press A on Continue.

3. Sign in on your phone

The next screen is headed Sign in on your phone. It shows a QR code, the address mytvplayer.app/pair, and an 8-character code in two groups of four.

Scan the QR code with your phone camera, or open the address on any device, sign in to your account, and enter the code. Link device on that page signs the console in a few seconds later; the screen on the TV moves on by itself. The code lasts five minutes and is replaced automatically when it runs out.

4. Pick a profile and finish setup

The console pulls your sources and guide down, then stops at the profile picker. Choose yours.

The first time, a short setup follows: pick an avatar, confirm the source that came with your account, and answer two optional questions about sport and taste. Each one can be finished without choosing anything. The first time you open the app on Xbox covers every screen.

5. Play something

Setup ends on Start watching. Open Live TV and pick a channel. Live channels are read first, so they play while movies, series and the program guide are still arriving.

Adding sources

The console never asks for a playlist address or portal credentials. Add them on the web at mytvplayer.app or in the Windows app, and the Xbox picks them up on its next sync. Set up a TV or console without typing covers the whole route from the phone’s side.

What the free plan includes

One device and one playlist. Everything else needs a paid plan, which is managed on the web; the console app shows what the plan includes and never sells anything itself.
