The Xbox app

This section covers what is specific to the console app. If it is not installed yet, begin with get started on Xbox instead: it takes you from nothing to a playing channel.
- Install the app, and how updates arrive
- The first time you open the app: the disclaimer, the pairing sign-in and the setup screens
- Set up a TV or console without typing: the pairing route from the phone’s side
- Why the console cannot see what a source returns, and why sources are added on the web
How it differs from the Windows app
Section titled “How it differs from the Windows app”The two apps share their screens and one account, so what you learn on one carries to the other. What the console leaves out is deliberate, and all of it is on the web or in the Windows app:
| On Windows | On Xbox |
|---|---|
| Email, password, Google or Microsoft sign-in | A pairing code, claimed from a phone or PC |
| Type, test and upload sources | Sources arrive from the account; the console picks which is active |
| Local recording to a folder you choose | No recording |
| Multiview, up to nine channels | One channel at a time |
| A Subscription page for your plan | The console shows what the plan includes and never sells anything |
Plans are bought in the My TV Player app: from Google Play on Android phones, tablets and TVs, from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and Mac, or from the Microsoft Store on Windows and Xbox. A plan works on every device signed in to your account. On the Xbox the plans are yearly; a lifetime plan bought elsewhere works there too. The web console only shows your plan.
If something is broken rather than unclear, troubleshoot is the faster path, and I cannot sign my TV in is the page for the sign-in screen.
